Beaumont Nanny Shares More of Her Experiences

Agnes Somuah has been a Christian for a while now, and she says that through her journeys, jobs and teaching, she has noticed that some people struggle with prayer.

So she wrote a book on how simple it really is to pray.

Praying with a Scooper is the English translation of Somuah's second and latest book, which she held a book signing for at Marybeth's Coffee House on June 25.

"Most times, when somebody says 'okay you need to pray about this,' it's like it's a big project," said Somuah. "So I wanted to make it simple. You don't have to set
up a project to pray about everything that happens in your life.

"But everything in your life can be an avenue for you to pray."

The book highlights different aspects of life – from work to parenting to marriage – that people sometimes turn to their faith in regards to.

Somuah, nearly 40, has experience with finding and turning to God, as she became a Christian after years in an abusive
home followed by an empty, dangerous
childhood in Ghana, Africa.

Her search for answers brought her to God, which has taken her on a journey to teaching at schools in Ghana, and working for both a women's and children's program
at an African radio station. That radio gig got her out of Africa in 2006 to Cyprus, where she became qualified through an agency to work as a nanny in Canada. She
then came to Beaumont where she has been working for approximately two years.

In total she has been away from her husband and three children for nearly four years, though she has applied for them to join her here.

Her time with the family she works for is coming to an end, and a job hunt has begun.

Regardless, her writing will continue, as she is reworking her first book, Celebrating God. She has changed the cover and has retitled it His Love Doesn't Hurt.

It is a story of her personal struggle; it will be re-released at the end of the summer and Somuah is hoping at that time that both of her books can be used for education
purposes in schools in Ghana.

"I think my audience is more there than here," she said.

She had a good turnout for the book signing though, and has had an influx of emails since. Her experiences seem to make her voice quite valued.

"I guess I brought it to the level where . . . if you are facing those issues, there will be an avenue for you to start learning how to pray and it can become part and parcel
of you," she said.
